Our first exhibition aims to create space for new and emerging artists living and working in Iran and the United Kingdom in what we hope will be the first step towards a generative dialogue and critical conversation between the artists in question, as well as the two wider artistic communities. For far too long engagements of this kind have found themselves overshadowed and obscured by high politics, impenetrable borders and media sensationalism.
The works in this exhibition address themes ranging from the metaphysical to the political in its attempt to juxtapose disparate approaches in contemporary art and aesthetics, and delineates encounters between Iran and the UK in a number of global and intercultural contexts.
The Exhibition consists of the curated works of six emerging artists, including two diasporic artists, with an explicit commitment to providing a venue for female-identifying artists.
The six artists featured in this exhibition engage the complexities of identity and narrative through an exploration of individual and collective memory, space and dislocation, cross-cultural interchange and hybridity, performativity, lived experiences and their simulacra.
